Pixel 8 colors: what to expect

Pixel 8 and 8 Pro are the next generation premium phones from Google which are expected to be released in October this year. And, as usual with popular brands, there are leaks months before the Pixel 8 series becomes official, detailing a lot of tidbits about the two phones, including possible color options.

Google’s phones, especially the high-end ones, come up in eye-catching colors every year, even sporting fancy names, just for the hell of it. This year seems to be no different, as according to leaks and rumors, the two phones will come in four gorgeous colors with interesting names like Licorice and Peony (those internal names though, as Android Authority, the source of the leak points out, so they may not be called that once released!).
Now let’s get into the details of the expected colors for Pixel 8 and 8 Pro.

What colors will the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro be available in?

According to the latest leak, the Pixel 8 will be available in Haze, Jade, Licorice, and Peony, while the Pixel 8 Pro will come in Jade, Licorice, Porcelain, and Sky. Keep in mind that the names of those colors may not be the official names and Google may end up calling them differently when they are released.

Pixel 8 Pro leaked colors (unofficial names):

We recently had a big color leak on the two phones that teases what we can expect from them. In reality, what has been leaked are the backgrounds for the two phones and the names (probably internal) of the colors. However, Google is known to create specific wallpapers for a specific color option, so these are a great clue as to the actual colors we might see the phones in.

Now, let’s dive into the details a bit, shall we?

Pixel 8 colors (it is said)

Let’s start with the Pixel 8, the “vanilla” model. It will reportedly sport four colors, two of which are also found in the Pro color palette. Here we’ll show you the leaked wallpapers, and you can base your expectations of each color on the color palette of these wallpapers.

Here’s a leaked render of the Pixel 8, so you can put the underlying colors into perspective and imagine them on the device:

Pixel 8 in Haze (rumored)

In the image above, you see the leaked Pixel 8 wallpaper for the “Haze” color. Judging by the tones in the background and the leaked color name, we suspect this color option will be a gorgeous light green color.

We know from other leaks that the Pixel 8 won’t be drastically different when it comes to the design of the Pixel 7, other than a few minor tweaks. This means that we will see the camera bar painted in a color matching the back of the phone, which will presumably be this light green color. Fresh and trendy, we might add.

Pixel 8 in Jade (rumored)

Jade is another rumored color option for the Pixel 8. Again judging by the leaked wallpapers, it’s going to be some sort of teal-green sheen, possibly with a matching bezel and camera bar. Of course, pinpointing exactly which color Google has chosen won’t be accurate anytime soon, but it will most likely be the lighter version of the background.

Pixel 8 in licorice (they say)

For those of you who may not know, licorice is a type of plant and its root is used for various health benefits. Interestingly, Google uses this mystifying name for one of the Pixel 8 colors at least internally (of course, judging by the leaks).

Wallpaper that has been tied to this color from leaks and other sources is pictured above, and looks more like an amethyst crystal than a plant or licorice root. We can almost assume that the Pixel 8’s color will be a dark color, perhaps closer to black than anything green or vegetal. Maybe Google was inspired by the root of the plant? In the photo below are licorice candies and lemons:

We can’t wait to see how Google implements this on a phone, hopefully it doesn’t end up just being your regular black phone.

Pixel 8 in Peony (rumored)

Let’s move on to the next exciting Pixel 8 color that’s been rumored: Peony. This is a beautiful bright pink flower after which the color option is named. From wallpapers, we have the idea of a saturated, but not too vibrant pink-orange color option.

All in all, it looks different from the colors we’ve seen on Google phones before, although depending on how Google makes them, it could be a mix between the Pixel 7a’s coral and a pink undertone. We can’t wait to see more!

Pixel 8 Pro colors (rumored)

Now onto the big and generally badass Pro-branded Pixel in the series. It reportedly has two colors that will likely be very similar to two of the Pixel 8s (after all, they carry the same names: Licorice and Jade), and two different ones. Obviously, given that it’s a Pro phone, it seems to have a slightly more premium approach, even for the two colors that should be similar to its “vanilla” brother, judging by the difference in the wallpapers.

Below, we’ve got a leaked render of the Pixel 8 Pro, to show you the possible design and to help you visualize the colors from the underlying backgrounds.

Pixel 8 Pro in Jade (rumored)

The Pixel 8 Pro will also reportedly have a green tint just like the Pixel 8, unofficially dubbed Jade. The wallpaper that is supposed to accompany this shade looks simply premium and your phone could sport a similar sophisticated look. The green will not be as vibrant, perhaps more like the background behind the crystal pictured in the wallpaper.

Pixel 8 Pro in licorice (they say)

Licorice on the Pixel 8 Pro is expected to be the black version this year. Let’s hope Google adorns it with some interest and we don’t end up with a super boring black phone. Of course, the camera bar design and changes to the front of the phone (mainly, rumors say it will be a flat screen this time around instead of a slightly curved one on the predecessor) will make this phone interesting nonetheless.

Pixel 8 Pro in porcelain (rumored)

We can see on this leaked wallpaper a very interesting rosy beige colour. Of course, the color could end up being the white option, or something very close to white with a tinge of the color into the background of the wallpaper.

We are inclined to dream that the frame of the phone is colored in a shade similar to the golden crystal that we see in the image above. Or perhaps something similar to what we see below, on the camera bar and frame of last year’s Pixel 7 Pro?

Pixel 8 Pro in Sky (they say)

And finally, we have Sky, which will presumably be light blue. Google is no stranger to blue phones – the latest addition to the company’s mid-range portfolio comes in an azure hue. However, Pixel 8 Pro may be a little different than Pixel 7a. We’re expecting perhaps a deeper or slightly more saturated blue for the premium phone. But it’s too early to tell for sure.

Bottom Line: The Pixel 8’s colors are likely to look great, but we’ve yet to see them confirmed

It is important to know that the information we have in this article comes from leaks and rumors as well as leaked Pixel 8 wallpapers. As we’ve already mentioned, it’s a little too early to know for sure whether or not these colors will actually appear.

Maybe they will, maybe they will be changed significantly… only time (and the leaks afterward) can tell. For now, we’re excited about the chance to see gorgeous Jade on the Pixel 8 or Porcelain on the Pixel 8 Pro. We’ll keep you posted if any new leaks or renders appear online, so stay tuned!
