iPhone 15 may have new battery technology that you can’t get on Android

I told you that the feature of the iPhone 15 that I am most excited about is the battery life, considering the battery experience I had with the iPhone 14 Pro. The phone has a remarkable battery life and I don’t charge it on a daily basis . I don’t even charge it overnight. I expect iPhone 15 to provide battery updates that will further improve battery life.

It turns out that Apple may introduce a new battery technology on the iPhone 15 which could be a big advantage over the competition. One of the latest rumors claims that Samsung is struggling to produce stacked batteries for the Galaxy S24 series that will hit stores early next year. But the same source claims that all of the iPhone 15’s batteries will be stacked, which would make Apple’s iPhones the only phones in 2023 with this intriguing new battery technology.

A leaker who calls himself RGcloudS on Twitter says Samsung won’t be able to equip all Galaxy S24 models with stacked batteries. This is where the person released the news that Apple has ensured stacked batteries for all iPhone 15 units.

It’s not the first time we’ve heard that Samsung’s battery division is working to bring stacked battery technology to smartphones.

Interestingly, the leaker said that the new Samsung flagship will support 65W fast charging. It is unclear whether the charging speed is related to the stacked battery technology. But electric cars use stacked batteries. And fast charging is something we want from electric vehicles.

Stacked batteries refer to a new design that changes the way batteries are manufactured. Instead of rolling the various materials inside a battery, stacked batteries stack them on top of each other. This design change allows manufacturers to create batteries that are more efficient in terms of the space they have to occupy. And space is at a premium inside a cell phone.

Additionally, stacked batteries are more compact, allowing suppliers to increase energy density. Recent reports claim an increase in energy density of up to 10%. Improving the energy density of smartphone batteries would be a huge upgrade.

Again, there is less and less space inside a smartphone nowadays. Take the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The phone should come with a periscope lens camera which will take up more space internally. As a result, the battery capacity may be affected. But using stacked batteries and increasing the thickness of the iPhone 15 models would allow Apple to improve battery life across the board.

I recently reported an iPhone 15 design detail from leaked CAD files that people paid little attention to. All four models will be slightly thicker than their respective iPhone 14 variants. This told me that Apple wants to increase the battery capacity of all four iPhones.

I was speculating at the time but reminded you that Apple had done the same trick with previous iPhone models. Increasing the thickness of the iPhone is the only way to increase the battery capacity. Add stacked technology into play and every millimeter increase would allow you to increase battery capacity.

Then, a leak offered us alleged iPhone 15 battery capacities, seemingly confirming my hunch. New batteries are getting bigger.

Finally, I’ll add that there’s a new development from Europe that may explain Apple’s move to stacked batteries. The EU wants to make batteries easy to remove and replace in devices sold in the region. But iPhones could become an exception to the new rules as long as they offer great battery health after hundreds of charge cycles. Stacked batteries could help with this.

The same rules would apply to Samsung and anyone trying to release gadgets with built-in batteries. That’s why Samsung may be researching this particular technology. The batteries that Samsung SDI would produce could also power many non-Samsung devices.

That said, we’ll have to wait until September to see if the iPhone 15 features stacking batteries.
