Faster Internet installed on the Costa Cruises flagship

Costa Cruises, which is one of the brands of Carnival Corporation, has implemented SpaceX’s Starlink Wi-Fi on its new ship. Guests will enjoy better internet connectivity while streaming, scrolling and chatting while browsing.

Costa Cruises now has SpaceX’s Starlink Internet on board the Tuscan coast. Starlink’s Low Earth Orbit satellite technology is available to guests sailing seven-day itineraries on a Western Mediterranean cruise. The new technology offers blazing fast speeds, a secure connection, and a more reliable internet experience.

Starlink’s new maritime system will improve communication and make it more secure between landlocked ships and departments. Additionally, crew members will have a better internet connection to converse with family and friends at home, which will be an added benefit for cruise passengers as well.

Costa remains committed to adopting innovative solutions that improve onboard services and exceed guests’ and crew’s expectations. Thanks to the revolutionary capabilities of low-orbiting Starlink satellites, our ships will have access to reliable, high-speed Internet connectivity like never before”, said Giuseppe Carino, Costa Cruises VP Guest Experience & Onboard Revenues.

Starlink Internet services will be added to the entire Costa range over time. THE Costa Smeralda will be next and installation will be complete for all ships by December 2023. Guests can choose from a variety of internet packages, including ‘Pay per Minute’, ‘WhatsApp’, ‘Social’ and ‘Full’.

Our goal is to transform the way our ships operate, providing an even better experience for our guests and crew, through a combination of different technologies, services and broadband connections,Cute added.

THE Tuscan coast is cruising the Mediterranean this summer on itineraries that include stops in France, Spain and Italy. The vessel, which debuted in 2021, weighs 185,010 gross tons and can comfortably accommodate a total of 6,730 guests, or 5,224 cruisers. Also, the vessel is one of the 10 largest cruise ships in the world.

Costa Cruises is not the only Carnival brand to use Starlink

Despite Carnival tripling its bandwidth on ships, Wi-Fi issues have plagued the world’s largest cruise line. That’s why the company’s announcement to add Starlink Internet to its ship brand has received such positive feedback.

Numerous Carnival brands use Starlink Internet services on its ships. In January, it was announced that Carnival Cruise Line and AIDA Cruises the debut of Starlink Internet will begin.

AIDA Cruises will also have Starlink Internet on board each ship by October 2023.

Carnival will continue to roll out the new technology on Princess Cruises, Seabourn, Holland America Line, P&O Cruises (Australia), P&O Cruises (UK) and Cunard.

Other popular cruise lines including Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, Hurtigruten and SeaDream moved to Starlink Maritime in 2022. Additionally, Norwegian Cruise Line has been testing the technology on Norwegian Breakaway and plans to roll out Starlink across all three cruise brands if the trials go well. American Cruise Lines also recently installed the new Starlink Internet.
