5 Awesome Things You Can Do to Your Motorola Razr Plus Case Screen | Digital Trends

The Motorola Razr Plus is easily one of the best, if not the best, flip phone right now. The 3.6-inch cover display is the largest you can get on a foldable clamshell and Motorola has made serious efforts to use the external screen to its full potential, unlike what Oppo has done with its Oppo Find N2 Flips.

I’ve had the Razr Plus for a week now and I keep discovering new ways to use the cover display. Here are five awesome things you can do with it.

Moo time is the best

Motorola offers nine different clock styles to choose from for the cover screen, and Moo’s Time is the best. It’s a character (Moo, I think) that’s on your cover screen. He is not a freeze frame. Moo is intuitive and reacts to your touches. You will never be bored as it also changes with the time of day.

For example, around 7 in the morning, he brushes his teeth and when you touch him, he blows a kiss on the screen. In the afternoon, he has coffee, rests or works on a laptop depending on the time of day. In the evening I see him returning from work on the subway. It is very intuitive and playful. I love Moo.

Here’s how to select the Moo watch style:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Go to External view.
  3. Faucet Lock screen clock faces.
  4. To select Moo time.

Run any app you like

This is something Oppo could have done with the Find N2 Flip, but instead limited the screen to widgets only. Instead of having an app preset, you can select Anyone app you want to use on the cover screen. From YouTube to Microsoft Teams to social media apps like Twitter and Instagram, you can do it all.

I’ve found it extremely useful when I want to reply to messages on Teams or WhatsApp. All I have to do is tap the notification and the chat opens. Tap the text box and you get a full keyboard to type on without limitations. I don’t feel uncomfortable typing on the cover display because it’s not cramped.

Quickly replying to a message on a small display not only saves time from unwinding, but also keeps things focused. I don’t find myself mindlessly scrolling through social media after replying to messages. I send a text and slide my phone back. You can run YouTube too if you want. I don’t recommend it, though, because inside is a 6.9-inch display to watch content on.

Here’s how to select the apps you want to use on the cover screen:

  1. Unlock your phone but keep it folded.
  2. Swipe right once.
  3. Tap the Pencil icon in the upper right corner.
  4. You will get a list of almost all installed apps.
  5. Touch to select the ones you need on the cover screen.
  6. Tap the Tick icon in the upper right corner.
  7. You will have all the selected apps on the App lid display screen.

Capture good-looking selfies with the rear cameras

The selfie cameras on most Android phones aren’t great, which is one of the reasons I was a fan of the Asus Zenfone 8 Flip’s design. It let me take selfies with the main camera, not a watered-down front-facing one, and it gave me a full-screen viewfinder. The Oppo Find N2 Flip was the first time since then that I could use the rear cameras to click selfies with a good viewfinder.

The Motorola Razr Plus takes it to the next level by allowing me quick access to the camera with a twist of the wrist. You don’t need to unlock and tap the camera icon to launch the app; just a twist. It adds to the overall experience. I was able to use the rear cameras as a selfie shooter while also having a full screen viewfinder, and it was a great experience.

Games made for cover display

The Motorola Razr Plus comes with seven games pre-installed with the option to download more. Get Marble chaos, Astro Odyssey, pile bounce, and more. To download more games, you have to open your phone and choose the ones you like.

I like Marble chaos which moves the marble as you twist and turn the phone. Astro Odyssey it’s like the dinosaur game you get in chrome when the internet is down. I’m not much of a person to play with phones, but these are good time-killers for when the internet isn’t working, or you’re bored and just want to kill a few minutes.

Lots of customization options

Most flip phones offer a few widgets for their cover screen and that’s about it. But Motorola lets you customize the Razr Plus’s coverage screen to your liking. You can choose from a variety of panels, which are essential widgets designed especially for the cover screen.

You get an app launcher, contacts, calendar, weather, games, Spotify, Google Fit and Google News to choose from. These are all pretty self explanatory. The only annoyance here is for YouTube Music or Apple Music users. You can just have a Spotify panel on the cover screen, and that’s it.

Here’s how to customize the panels:

  1. Unlock your phone.
  2. Touch and hold on the cover screen.
  3. You will get a menu with three options: Manage panels, Wallpapers and shortcutsAND Lock screen clock face. Touch the first one.
  4. A horizontal list of panels will appear. From here, you can drag and drop the ones you want onto the screen.
  5. Tap the check icon in the upper right corner.

This is what all cover screens should look like

Joe Maring/Digital Trends

The Motorola Razr Plus cover screen helps it stand out from all other clamshell foldables. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is said to have a large coverage display to rival the Motorolas, but we don’t know if you’ll be able to do the same with it; it is said that it may not be entirely be the case.

No matter what Samsung does, the Razr Plus remains a prime example of how every company that makes a foldable flip phone should handle screen coverage. Keep your small displays and widgets limited. Give me a big screen, tons of settings, and the freedom to do whatever I want with it.
